Program Structure

The competitive swimming program is carefully structured to accommodate varying levels of skill and commitment among swimmers.


Para Swimming

Kenora Swimming Sharks is a progressive and inclusive club committed to providing opportunities for all athletes, including para-athletes. Para-athletes are included in groups based on individual ability and personal goals, ensuring that every member can thrive in a supportive environment.

Pre-Competitive Program


Pre-comp

Swimmers aged 6 to 13 who are just beginning competitive swimming.

The program is based on learning the four competitive strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly), race skills (starts and turns) and the development of physical fitness and endurance. Competition is restricted to local KSS “intra club” Mini Meets and one sanctioned meet per year.  Mini meets are generally held near the end of each session.  

Pre-comp 1 Hour swim 3 x weekly for 1 hour. 

Pre-comp 45 Minute swim twice weekly for 45 minutes.  

Pre-comp groups runs October - mid May


Equipment required: Goggles, Appropriate Swimsuit (Jammer), Cap, Water Bottle. We recommend inquiring with your coach to best equip your swimmer.


 

Competitive Program


CG1 

The CG1 group is for motivated and committed swimmers, age 13 and over, who have chosen competitive swimming as their primary activity and who have the goal of becoming a successful Senior National swimmer.  CG1 swimmers will have, or are trending towards their Man-Sask AA times, and are committed to 4 weekly swimming practices and 3 weekly independent dryland fitness sessions. CG1 will attend Club, Regional, Provincial and National level meets, training camps and specialized dryland activities are directed by the Head Coach. The priorities for this group are training and meet performance, attendance, motivation and technical reliability.



CG2

The CG2 group is for motivated and committed swimmers, aged 12-15, who have chosen swimming as their primary activity. The principal of this group is to prepare swimmers for the demands of swimming in the CG1. Swimmers in CG2 will have achieved Man Sask AA times, or be trending towards AA times or, are committed and able to handle a full program of 4 swimming practices and 3 independent dryland fitness sessions. CG2 swimmers will compete in Club, Regional, Provincial and National swim meets. The priorities for this group are technical reliability, attendance, motivation and performance in both training and at meets. CG2 graduates are eligible for entry into the CG1 group (top group).




CG3 

The CG3 group is for graduates of the CG4 program (or for swimmers with an equivalent level of experience) age 13 and under. The CG3 group swimmers are ready for more of a challenge as they continue to learn the fundamentals of competitive swimming. CG3 swimmers are expected to attend club and regional swim meets. The athletes take part in 4 weekly swimming practices with an activation component prior to each swim. The goal of the CG3 swimmer is to move into the CG2  group depending on their age, stroke, technical skills, motivation, attendance and performance.




CG4 

The CG4 group is for graduates of the Pre-Competitive program (or for swimmers with an equivalent level of experience) age 12 and under. The CG4 group swimmers are ready for more of a challenge as they continue to learn the fundamentals of competitive swimming. CG4 swimmers are expected to attend club and regional swim meets. The athletes take part in 3 weekly swimming practices with an activation component prior to each swim. The goal of the CG4 swimmer is to move into the CG3  group depending on their age, stroke, technical skills, motivation, attendance and performance.
